Our last morning in Estes Park was wonderful. We ate breakfast and then soaked in the hot tub one last time. We kinda were hoping it would snow while we were sitting in the hot tub but no such luck.
However, when we were packing all our stuff up and getting ready to leave guess what it started to do? Yup that's right...SNOW! It was beautiful and it was really
coming down. Jeff grabbed the camera and took a few shots of the snow falling outside in the front of the cabin and out in the back by the mountains. We took a few pictures of us together in front of the fire place, loaded our stuff and off we went. We hated leaving that cozy little cabin behind but we vow we WILL be going back very soon (next year sometime hopefully). We drove through snow/blizzard like conditions up to about Cheyenne, WY. Then we just kinda drove out of it, which was find by me. I don't like when the weather is like that...it was almost white out conditions in some spots. Jeff
did great driving in that stuff...I'm just happy I didn't have to drive in it! We got into Wyoming and there was NOTHING! You can see for miles and miles. It's nuts! We both decided we could never live out there! You would see driveways and mailboxes but no houses right there...they were all usually down the gravel road a few miles!
There were some neat areas in Wyoming. We spotted this "rock structure" out in the middle of no where which we thought was kinda neat. We didn't fill up the car before we left Estes Park thinking we would find plenty of gas stations in Wyoming...NOPE...not true! We drove and drove and drove. Where in the world do these people get their groceries, gas and supplies?! We finally came to a town called Torrington, WY. We got gas here because we had no idea where in the world after this we would be able to get gas. We also ate at Arby's for lunch.
After driving FOREVER (it seemed like it anyway) in the most boring area imaginable we made it to South Dakota! We drove through Spearfish Canyon. VERY BEAUTIFUL! It had snowed there right before we got there so there
was a nice layer of white on the trees and the hills. We decided we live on the boring plain side of South Dakota :)! When we got to Spearfish we decided to just stay put. We got a room at the Holiday Inn Express and went to Applebee's for supper. That night we kicked back and relaxed for the rest of the journey home the next day. That next morning we got up bright and early...eager to get on the road and get home! We stopped to get gas and grab a quick bite to eat at the gas station and off we went. For lunch we stopped at Al's Oasis. So now we can say we have been there :)! Very good food. We made it home at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 18th. It was good to be home and boy did we still miss Colorado! We went and got Jake that night in Inwood and then it was back to the grind on Thursday the 19th. Vacation just flew by...but boy are we thankful we got to experience what we did! All of God's beauty is out there to see and boy what we saw on our vacation sure was beautiful. God did a marvelous job!!
So that's our vacation in a nut shell. We hope we didn't bore everyone with the day by day account of it all! We would highly recommend everyone going to Colorado at least once...you won't regret it! God's blessing to everyone and we'll post more next week!
