Everyone knows how COLD it is outside. Imagine if your furnace decides to take a dive on one of the coldest nights/upcoming weekends of the decade! Yup...that would describe Jeff and my night last night!!
Jeff got home from work last night at about 6:00 and noticed that the furnace was blowing out COLD air. Ok that would be fine if it was 90 out and we had the air on. Never mind that it's the middle of winter! Ok back to the story :)! So he goes downstairs and starts messing with the furnace. I'm busy making supper at this point so I guess I was not feeling the cold until he said it was getting colder in the house. Then I felt it! About an hour later the furnace is still blowing out cold air. So we are both getting kinda stressed at this point wondering what in the world to do next. Who would be working at 7 p.m. in Madison to come fix our furnace?! Well Jeff decided to call F & M (our propane provider) since they fixed our furnace the last time it took a dive (right after we got married).
Thank God someone answered out there! They got ahold of the on-call guy and he was at our house in about an hour. By this time it's 61.9 in the house. I had the oven door open (it was hot from cooking supper) and I also had found a space heater upstairs so I brought that down and had it sitting by my feet. The guy checked 5 things on the furnace (Jeff had already checked those 5 things and found nothing wrong with them) so it was no shock when this guy found nothing wrong with it too. He was baffled. Jeff's thinking the whole furnace has taken a dive and he is seeing dollar signs by this time. Well then Jeff showed the repair guy the filter that had been sucked into the furnace (it was a bit old and dirty). The guy used a screwdriver and pushed in these two buttons on the furnace and low and behold...the furnace lit and there was warm air coming out again! YIPPPEEEE!! Jeff saw those two little buttons but he had no idea what in the world they do so he didn't want to mess with them in fear of really messing up the furnace. So we have heat again and boy does it feel toasty at our house.
While our furnace was not working Tami and Alan stopped by to drop off Alan's truck. Sorry about the COLD conditions you two!! But I guess compared to outside it wasn't too bad in the house! We talked about our upcoming snowmobiling trip and of course the hot topic (no pun intended) was the furnace. They left right before the repair guy got there. So it was pretty crazy at our house last night. But it all worked out!
So that was our night last night...we are so happy it wasn't the whole furnace. Jeff said it was put in it 2001 (right before he moved in there) so you wouldn't think it would poop out already. But our water heater is the same age and we need to replace that (probably next week). Oh if it's not one thing it's another but all in all we are very fortunate to have all we have. We are very thankful for everything we have and it makes us realize that we are truly blessed with all we have. Even when things break...I'm happy we have the money and the resources to get it fixed if we need it fixed. So many people are not as fortunate.
